Types of Testosterone Therapy at Aesthetica

At Aesthetica Medical Spa, we offer our patients different forms of TRT here in Utah. We offer BioTE pellet therapy and, in some cases, we can prescribe our patients gels, creams, and testosterone injections. Some patients may require a combination of methods for optimal results. Each method of administration has its pros and cons; this can be discussed in further detail during your testosterone replacement therapy consultation.

BioTE testosterone pellet therapy

BioTE pellets are the size of a grain of rice and are inserted in the fatty tissue of the buttocks or flanks. This is a quick and easy in-office procedure performed by an Aesthetica Nurse Practitioner. BioTE TRT is tolerated well by most patients and is our favorite form of testosterone replacement therapy in Utah. Typically, pellets can last 3-4 months for women and 5-6 months for men.

Testosterone therapy injections

Testosterone injections are injected into the muscle and the frequency varies depending on the patient, but typically patients inject themselves one to two times per week. Although this method is usually cheaper, it can be inconsistent with most patients. Testosterone injection patients can experience spikes in testosterone levels within the first day or so of injection and a significant drop after a couple days. Testosterone injections are prescribed to you by an Aesthetica Nurse Practitioner and can be picked up at your pharmacy.

Gel and cream TRT

Creams and gels are prescribed by an Aesthetica Nurse Practitioner and can be picked up from your pharmacy. This form of TRT is absorbed through the skin and needs to be applied daily. Patients who choose this method need to be extra cautious to avoid transferring medication onto others, especially children. Patients who apply testosterone gels and creams can be at risk for skin irritations.

Common Questions

How do women benefit from testosterone replacement therapy in Utah?

A lot of times people forget that women also naturally produce testosterone in their bodies, and it’s just as essential for women to have normal testosterone levels as it is for men. Benefits of testosterone replacement therapy for women include increased libido, lowered risk of Alzheimer’s disease, lower risk of breast cancer and heart disease, increased bone density and muscle mass, better sleep, more manageable weight, improved mood, and much more!

What is the treatment for low testosterone?

At Aesthetica we offer our patients BioTE pellet therapy as the main form of treatment for low testosterone. Other treatments we can prescribe include testosterone creams, gels, and injections.

How is low testosterone diagnosed?

If you are experiencing any signs and symptoms of low testosterone, schedule a hormone wellness check with an Aesthetica Nurse Practitioner. During your consultation, one of our providers will perform blood work and a physical exam. Our Nurse Practitioners will also ask about your medical history, medications and supplements you are taking and have taken in the past, smoking and drinking habits and history, and the symptoms you are currently having.

What are the downsides of TRT?

Like everything else in life, there are also downsides and risks associated with testosterone replacement therapy. Although these risks are uncommon, they can occur. Although rare, some possible side effects and risks of TRT include:

  • Acne and oily skin
  • Fluid retention
  • Increase red blood cell count
  • Testicle shrinkage
  • Unwanted hair growth
  • Decreased sperm production
  • Worsening sleep apnea

If you’re experiencing any of these side effects, let your Aesthetica provider know.

Who is not a candidate for testosterone replacement therapy?

At Aesthetica Medical Spa, each patient is individually assessed and testosterone replacement therapy treatment is personalized for each patient's body needs and concerns. Some patients however may not be candidates for TRT in Utah.

Patients who have or suspect they might have prostate cancer, unevaluated lumps on prostates, breast cancer, untreated sleep apnea, or patients with kidney, heart, or liver diseases may not be candidates for testosterone therapy.

During your consultation, one of Aesthetica’s Nurse Practitioners will review your medical history and make an evaluation if you’re a good candidate or not for TRT. Testosterone replacement therapy is not a cure for low testosterone. Once patients stop treatment, the symptoms of low testosterone will re-appear.

Client Reviews

I love aesthetica because of the hospitality of their staff, the results of their services and their reasonable and competitive pricing! Kelsey A - Aesthetica Patient
The staff is always outgoing, friendly and helpful. I've been going here for about 7 years and would never go anywhere else. I've even sent several friends here. THE BEST! Brandon S - Aesthetica Patient
Stephanie is amazing!! Takes all the time to listen to you and actually hears what you’re saying! Has been so amazing setting up a treatment plan and options that will be best for me! She’s the best of the best - from injections to women’s health and hormones! Lexie V. - Aesthetica Patient
I have been going to Aesthetica Medical Spa approximately 14 year’s. The front office staff are irreplaceable. Stephanie introduced me to hormone pellet replacement therapy. My husband has noticed that my mood levels have improved for the better. My visit was for Botox for my TMJ and facial lines. Stephanie keeps me on a regular routine with Botox and filler’s. I appreciate how closely Stephanie works with my aesthetician/April. I wouldn’t go to any other spa for skincare. Lisa E. - Aesthetica Patient
I've been doing the BioTe hormone pellets for about 8 years. I had a total hysterectomy 10 years ago and felt awful. I had to do something natural because my body rejects everything else. It took me awhile to get everything adjusted, along with taking the pharmacy made compound Progesterone, catered to me. The DIM and and testosterone blocker. I also made sure to do the bloodwork regularly and worked with my Dr. They are so worth the money. I feel great and highly recommend them if you're serious about your health. Medical Doctors take out all your female parts and then just leave you to suffer. Dr. Crofts who did my reconstruction surgery after getting breast cancer, which I believe was from the synthetic Estrogen, recommended the BioTe pellets. I have been getting them ever since. Thank you Stephanie and Asthetica! Jana K. - Aesthetica Patient
I’ve been working with Natalie at Aesthetica to get my hormones balanced out and she’s been absolutely amazing! She’s so knowledgeable and has done more research for my specific case. She did my procedure very professionally and helped me feel at ease and made sure I was comfortable. She followed up with me and is continuing to help me. I highly recommend Aesthetica and Natalie!
