Broken blood vessels — also called “broken capillaries” — occur when they’re dilated, or enlarged, just beneath your skin’s surface. This results in small, red lines that spread out into tiny red veins. Other type of common red lines are what is called facial telangiectasia. These patches of small dilated veins are not actually broken, but are simply large enough to be noticeable. They usually appear around the nose, cheeks, and the chin.
